Melchior ROHRER

Melchior Rohrer married Josepha Amstalden and they were the parents of Alois Shon (John) Rohrer. Alois John Rohrer married Anna Marie Katharina Gasser and they were married May 18, 1858. Alois John was born December 11, 1821 and he died March 24, 1887. Children born of this marriage, Marie Rohrer born April 1, 1859; Joseph Rohrer born November 14, 1860 at Sachseln Unterwalden Switzerland. Joseph Rohrer died August 2, 1942. To this union four (4) children were born in Sachseln Unterwalden Switzerland. These four (4) children are Joseph Jakob Rohrer born December 7, 1885; Marie Emma Rohrer born July 4, 1888; Theresia Agnes Rohrer born April 22, 1890, died May 29, 1891 at thirteen (13) months of age; Alois Karl born May 16, 1891. Joseph Rohrer brought Joseph, Marie and Alois to the United States where he met and married Katherine Kehr on November 22, 1894.

I remember the first time I (Margaret Elizabeth met him (Alois Rohrer). I was told that he wouldn't like me because I smoked cigarettes. One night he came to ur house where we were playing penny ante. Someone offered me a cigarette, I looked over at dad Rohrer, then took the cigarette and lit it. Dad said Margaret I know you smoke, I like you for not being a hipocrite about it. From then on he was always my champion and I never felt hurt or imposed on again.

He (Alois) talked with a slightly broken accent. When he was excited he used German phrases. When fishing, if he didn't get a bite in a long time he would say "himmel hargo sacstiment bit you huntz fritzas bite". Walt used to ask if he had his fishing license on him. He would answer "what difference does it make, fish don't know if I have a license. They bit just as well without".
